Recommendations of the Flight Director

Dear pilot friends,

First of all, I wish to thank you on behalf of the Coupe Icare organization Team for taking part in and contributing in some way to this year’s edition.

Aerial demonstrations (hang glider, paraglider, paramotor, etc….) have been part of our program for many years and are unanimously appreciated by our audience. The Coupe Icare would not be what it is today without the magnificent show that you put on for the spectators.

Nevertheless, it is important to be mindful of the particular context of the Coupe Icare: the terrain and meteorological patterns as well as the huge gathering of spectators, can be very challenging, occasionally risking grave if not fatal accidents, even for the most experienced pilots, especially on landing approaches.

Bear in mind that the Coupe Icare is not a competition, but rather a festive event in which invited pilots participate in the promotion of their favorite sport.

The overall objective remains the same: to present your discipline in its best light to the public

Having little knowledge of how to judge such performances, the spectators will be equally impressed by the beauty and grace of a maneuver mastered by a pilot who has kept a sufficient safety margin, than by an extreme maneuver that could put him at risk.

I am confident that you will perform in a responsible way, and that you will adapt your program to the meteorological conditions for your own security and enjoyment, as well as for the safety of the general public.

Please make sure this edition remains in our memory as one of the most breathtaking and well-mastered of all.
